1-54 Marrakech I Crossings

Loft Art Gallery participates in 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair Marrakech with Crossings, a curated booth exhibition bringing together Mehdi-Georges Lahlou, Nassim Azarzar, Mustapha Azeroual, M’hammed Kilito and Samy Snoussi around a central question: what does it mean to inhabit a space - whether physical, symbolic, inherited or reconstructed?

Through photography, installation, sculpture and painting, the artists explore shifting identities, visible and invisible boundaries, and the ways in which bodies, objects and narratives are inscribed within territories. Moving between memory and projection, absence and presence, Crossings unfolds as a sensitive dialogue on how individuals claim, transform or deconstruct the spaces they traverse - or that, in turn, inhabit them.

Within this framework, Mehdi-Georges Lahlou’s long-term project La Conférence des Palmiers extends beyond the booth. Presented inside
the fair through selected works, the project continues outdoors with the installation Totem dattier, installed just outside La Mamounia. This transition from interior to exterior space reinforces the exhibition’s central concerns, allowing the booth to unfold into the city as a spatial continuum.
