Samy Snoussi
Born in Toulouse, France, in 1993
Lives and works in Casablanca, Morocco

After studying art history and urban design in Montreal, Samy Snoussi worked for a while as a consultant for the city of Montreal. In parallel he developed an artistic career that extends from photography to painting, from sculpture to installation and performance. His commitment to urban development is embodied in murals that integrate the environment, sparking a dialogue between art, the city and its inhabitants. On his return to Morocco, the pursuit of creative freedom led him to return to the primordial gesture of ‘making’ from matter, offering a multidisciplinary production that combines contemporary form with ancestral craft techniques. His collaborations with artisans confirm the artist's desire to make his artistic approach a tool for social and cultural transformation.

In Samy Snoussi's protean practice, the body is the central issue and material of his work. Through it, this dysorthographic artist questions the link between body art and sociology: what is the true place of the individual in a society conditioned by conventional mechanisms? Thanks to a specific symbolic language—exploring words and their meaning, as much as their graphic and aesthetic qualities—his works reveal and defend the production of the individual body in reaction to the collective body of society.

He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Morocco, Côte d'Ivoire and Italy, as well as solo shows at the University of New Orleans (New Orleans 2019), MENART FAIR (Paris 2023) and La cantine du Faubourg (Dubai 2023). His work has integrated numerous national and international collections.
