Loft Art Gallery (Casablanca and Marrakech, Morocco) will be participating the inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar with a dedicated presentation of Moroccan French artist Mustapha
Azeroual.
Bringing together three major bodies of work - The Green Ray #5 Arabian Sea triptych, Radiance, and Héliaque Mobile #3, the gallery presents an immersive constellation of photographic and sculptural experiments that explore the limits of vision, perception, and temporality – aligned with the theme of Becoming.
Azeroual’s practice centres on light as both subject and material. Using a unique lenticular process and algorithmic image construction, he creates kinetic works that shift with each movement of the viewer, transforming photography into a space of multiplicity and becoming. His works respond to the fair’s curatorial theme by proposing that belonging is not a fixed state but a horizon in perpetual transformation.
Presented across two adjoining walls, The Green Ray #5 Arabian Sea envelops viewers in the chromatic threshold between day and night. Horizons shift, dissolve, and reform as the image transitions between abstraction and representation. Through the accumulation of successive photographs and their synthesis into a lenticular surface, the work captures not a single moment, but the very process of mutation - the passage from one state to another.
The viewer activates the work through movement, experiencing the horizon as an ever-changing field of light.
