THE NIGHTS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

WITH EDGAR MORIN, JOANA CHOUMALI, CYRIL DION

Les Rencontres d'Arles has joined forces with the first edition of Agir pour le Vivant, a major festival imagined by the Actes Sud publishing house. From 24th to 30th August 2020, this new space for reflection and exchange invited numerous personalities to put the living back at the heart of the debates and to come and meet those who imagine the world of tomorrow.

EDGAR MORIN
WHAT IS LIFE?
At a time of ecological emergency, when a virus is upsetting the state of the world, Edgar Morin proposes a reflection in images on the origins and the future of life.

JOANA CHOUMALI / PRIX PICTET
ÇA VA ALLER - II WILL BE OKAY
A conversation with the Ivorian photographer, winner of the Prix Pictet 2019.
The theme of the prize, Hope, and the title of the award-winning series, Ça va aller, are particularly relevant in these troubled times. In response to the terrorist attack in Grand-Bassam, her work using mixed techniques (embroidery and photography), shapes a truth that goes beyond the constraints of language.

CYRIL DION
AN ECOLOGICAL IMAGE?
LA BATAILLE DES RÉCITS
We are a fabulous species. Since the dawn of time, we have built our lives around myths. What about the ecological narrative today? Will it succeed in supplanting the dominant consumerist narrative? With what images will we be able to tell this new story?
