Loft Art Gallery will exhibit at Frieze Masters in October with a solo presentation dedicated to Mohamed Melehi (1936–2020), one of the defining figures of Moroccan modernism and a leading force behind the Casablanca Art School.
Presented within Spotlight, the presentation titled Wave Forms brings together a selection of paintings spanning the 1960s and 1970s, until 1980, tracing the emergence and evolution of Melehi's iconic wave motif.
Through this focused presentation, Loft Art Gallery proposes a reading of Melehi's practice as one of the most significant yet under-recognised contributions to post-war abstraction. Wave Forms presents key paintings from across two decades of Mohamed Melehi's practice, charting the development of the visual language that would come to define both his work and a new vision of Moroccan modernism.
