Lives and works in Morocco
M’hammed Kilito is a visual artist and National Geographic Explorer based in Rabat. He is also a contributing photographer with The VII Foundation.
His artistic practice revolves around exploring the complex relationships individuals and communities maintain with their environments — whether as places of life, memory, or transition. M’hammed’s work seeks to capture narratives that shed light on these deep connections, addressing themes such as cultural identity, the sociology of work, and the impacts of climate change.
M’hammed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Montreal and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ottawa. His photography has been recognized and supported by prestigious institutions such as the World Press Photo Foundation, the National Geographic Society, the Magnum Foundation, and the Prince Claus Fund, among others. His work has been featured in international outlets including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Magazine, The British Journal of Photography, and Vogue Italia, and has been exhibited worldwide.
His work belongs in institutional collections around the world, including the MACAAL in Marrakech, the Fotofilmic Collections in Vancouver, and the François Schneider Foundation in France.
He is the co-founder of KOZ, a collective he created with three other Moroccan visual artists to develop narratives through in-depth and long-term projects.
